My new musical, Forgiving the Franklins, has a reading in Hollywood

It’s a brand new musical, fresh off the grill! Based on the indie film that was an audience favorite at Sundance, FORGIVING THE FRANKLINS is a musical tragicomedy about a religious Southern family who loses their sense of shame through divine intervention, only to find that their friends and community can’t tolerate who they are without it. It’s set in North Carolina, and the music ranges from modern Americana to country pop to “bluegrass Gilbert and Sullivan.” Bookwriter/lyricist Jay Floyd (who wrote and directed the movie) says, “Stylistically it is Sweeney’s Little Shop of Mormons – funny, brazen and satirical with swings into profound darkness.”

We had a blast doing a reading for an invited audience at The Bourbon Room in Hollywood with a cast of thirteen, a five-piece band, and some multimedia elements. Now that we’ve seen it on its feet for the first time, we are working on revisions for the next phase. More news to come.
